Science, not your neighbours, actually dictates the best and worst times to roll out the mower!

The Good:

The optimal lawn mowing condition occur between 8-10am. Any morning dew should have evaporated (unless you have a North-facing house) and it gives your lawn time to recover before the heat of the day sets in. Plus, after 10am the heat can be detrimental to your health as well.

Another good time to mow is between 4-6pm.  If you have a mulching mower, mulching the clippings into your lawn will provide valuable nutrients the time to recycle back into your lawn before another dew.

The Bad:

The worst time to mow if you are wanting to avoid unnecessary stress and damage to your lawn is between 2-4pm. The sun is at it’s peak and your grass is busy photosynthesizing and trying to stay moisturized. Cutting or edging during this time could lead o brown, dry patches.

For your own sake, you may think it’s better to wait until the cooler part of the day to mow, but mowing between 7-9pm should be avoided as well. Exposing freshly cut grass to overnight dew can open your lawn up to disease.

And don’t forget the universal lawn-mowing etiquette: no mowing too early on weekends!
