We’re still about a month and a half away from Christmas, but many of us can’t wait to get into the holiday spirit! 43% of us will start (or finish) our holiday decorating by the end of November. 10% of us will wait until the first week of December and 3% will decorate the second week of December.

A lot of people like to wait until after Remembrance Day, but whenever you decide to decorate, decorating earlier could make you happier! Most of us can agree, 2020 has been a tough year, so if you are looking to inject a little holiday cheer into your life, get those lights out!

There are a few reasons decorating earlier can help:

  1. Savouring! Experts say thinking about & planning for a holiday can extend the good feelings associated with it. You’ve heard the saying, “The anticipation is the best part”? Case in point!
  2. It could bring joy to others in your neighborhood! Maybe they haven’t put up their lights or decor yet, but seeing yours could put a smile on their face! (Plus, those who decorate for holidays are perceived to be “friendlier”.)
  3. Nostalgia! Almost everyone has fond memories of their childhood holidays. Decorating can be a link to those feelings.

If you’re wondering how the pandemic has effected people’s approach to holiday decorations, in years past, 25% of people would start decorating on December 1st. Of those, 67% say they will start earlier this year as a “distraction”
